I Got Your Black Friday Hook-Up

Black Friday - it haunts me. I worked that day at Best Buy last year. It was nothing less than a blood bath.

Maniacal people stand in lines outside retail stores all night for the first holiday sales of the season, while employees inside the store prepare themselves to be attacked by the ghost of Ghengis Khan reincarnated. And it's all for sales prices.

The day after Thanksgiving is a retail holiday called Black Friday. According to Wikipedia, it is historically one of the busiest retail shopping days of the year, and that's because the sales are insane.

Normally you have to wait until Thanksgiving to see the ads for Black Friday, but this year some daring Internet site are giving us goods early. Go to bf2005.com, gottadeal.com and blackfridayads.com to see the ads for all major retail outlets.

The Top Kids Movies for Adults

I saw Harry Potter yesterday. It was AMAZING. The Seattle Times is hosting reviews from young muggles.

I won't get into any spoilers, but I will say that the acting is much better than previous movies and the directing and cinematography is on par with Prisoner of Azkaban.

This movie might be a little too intense for muggles under 10. It's geared toward older audiences - which brings me to my Top 5 "Movies Based on Children's Stories, Not Intended for Children" list:

  1. Ghostbusters
  2. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
  3. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
  4. Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
  5. Ghostbusters 2

I'm sorry but something about the combination of Bill Murray's acting and the Stay-Puff Marshmallow Man just stands out to me. If you've seen the new Harry Potter movie, or would like to provide an alternate Top 5 list, please, leave a comment.

If You're Not Skiing, You Should be Drinking

Today's random thoughts are brought to you by Chris Brown, reminding you: "Save water and drink beer with Chris - so the left isn't so lonely."

  1. Gramps sent me a great link that explains the differences between men and women.
  2. Mt. Baker opened Nov. 8 - the earliest opening day in a decade. Loaded with 27 inches, it was the deepest opening day snow in the ski areaโ€™s history.
  3. Beer is healthy! According to a OSU report, of course.
  4. Jeff Creighton is in Reno and representing. In fact, he had a date with four lesbians the other day. True story.
  5. Moos is featured in the new Western Front issue about her parties - I mean studies abroad.
  6. Seattle Public Schools are trying to limit "freak dancing" according to the P-I, which describes the act as "lap dancing, standing up." In a related story, Garfield HS students reportedly say there's no point in going to school anymore.
  7. Scott almost fell down the stairs and died on the fourth floor of Bond Hall because he was text messaging. This is yet another reason why text messaging is evil.

These random thoughts were brought to you by Chris Brown - because "If you're not skiing, you should be drinking."
