Yesterday, before a company-sponsored, beer-infested three-hour team trivia battle at Sluggers after work, the company held a baby/wedding shower for two managers who are expecting their first-borns and one co-worker, Heather, who is getting married in a couple weeks.
At the party, Heather told the story of how she met her fiance.
"I'm not going to be embarrased about this," she said in an embarrased tone. "We found each other on Match.com."
There ya go. Dr. Phil's not all bullshit: "You've got personality, looks, I.Q. You just need a little guy-Q, that's all." That's for you, Katrine.
For more on online dating, don't ask me because I refuse it. But you can check out the post about Scott pranking me with a personals ad on Craigslist.
Update: I still haven't found myself in an "I Saw U" ad in The Stranger, dammit. What does it take to get a girl to share her secret love for you in a weekly alternative newspaper in this city?
If you've caught any snippet of sports news in the last week, you should know something about NBA legend Tim Hardaway's (left) harsh comments about former NBA center John Amaechi and his gay proclamation in his new autobiography, "The Man in the Middle."
Quotes from the week:
"People aren't going to get less diverse as we move forward. If anything we're going to get more diverse," said former NBA player John Amaechi. "So we need to come to some kind of resolution to be open and be embracing of that, in order to be better."
โWell, you know, I hate gay people,โ said NBA legend Tim Hardaway. โI let it be known I donโt like gay people. I donโt like to be around gay people. Yeah, Iโm homophobic. I donโt like it.โ
โYou donโt want to know that there is somebody in your locker room and you are not aware of it,โ said Sonics guard Ray Allen. โAnd maybe you had to be careful being where you put yourself in a situation where you might get hit on by a teammate.โ
โThe fact that John has done this, maybe it will give others the comfort or confidence to come out as well, whether they are playing or retiring,โ said Magic guard Grant Hill.
The controversy has also driven dialogue amongst pundits about homosexuality in sports.
On the conservative side, author and nationally syndicated radio show host Michael Medved commented, "Those who suggest that a guy could shower with young female athletes without risk of arousal, or that a gay guy could shower with young male athletes with problems or discomfort, donโt merely defy common sense. They ignore human nature."
On the liberal side, gay actor George Takei, best known as Mr. Sulu on the original Star Trek TV series, had the the following to say (watch the whole thing, trust me):
I've had a really good social week thus far.
- Sunday: Dinner with Ally. Band practice with Chris, Jeremy and Danny.
- Monday: Drinks with Kenna and Katrine.
- Tuesday: Dinner with Theanne. Celebrated Chris Brown's birthday along with Moos, Katrine, Kali, Robin and Jeff Adamo.
I need to keep up the pace. I name-drop more than The Game. It's been great seeing you all.
