I'm going to the Federal Way Salmon Bake today.
I checked the sponsor list and it looks something like this:
- Evergreen Bank - $2,500
- Sportman's Warehouse - $700
- South King Firefighters Foundation - $500
- Marlene's Market and Deli Natural Foods - $250
- Rainier Pacific Bank - $250
- Vilma's Signs - $250
- Jim Chaffee (Scott's dad) - Hot dogs
I shouldn't knock Jimmy. He's strategic with the hot dogs, hitting the budget demographic. According to the event price list, a salmon dinner is $20 while the hot dog dinner is $5.
I bet the profit margin on hot dogs is much higher, too. According to a Tacoma News Tribune article yesterday, wild salmon prices range from $5.99 a pound for whole sockeye to $14 per pound for king fillets. How much does a dozen hot dogs cost? $4?
Jimmy's not a businessman. He's a business, man.
UPDATE: Sources close to Jimmy say he is also hosting the silent auction and raffle. Because of his unprecedented participation, locals call the event "Jimmy's Salmon Bake," hinting Jimmy is synonymous with Federal Way.

Better late than never... I should formally announce that Matt Wood left the Pacific Northwest last week to pursue teaching opportunities, as well as extreme weather and gang wars, in Omaha, Neb.
We'll miss you, Matt! In case you don't know the self proclaimed Radical Right, check out a few of the many posts below that illustrate my old college roommate and good friend.

I'm not sure how many of you out there still read the Funny Pages, but did you know that Adam@Home creator/cartoonist Brian Basset lives in Queen Anne?
He's quite the Cafe Fiore fan and honored his favorite corner coffee shop staff in Sunday's comic strip. (Click to enlarge.)
Today I broke two of the Golden Rules of grocery shopping.
- I shopped while I was hungry, thus buying way more than I needed.
- After grocery shopping I went out to dinner (with The Wives), which defeated the purpose of shopping in the first place.
I wish my grocery shopping experiences were more like this:
